We are the music community of St Martin of Tours Primary School, a catholic primary school in the North Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Each class – three classes per year level from Prep to Year 6 – has a 40 minute music lesson per week. In class we develop skills to understand and enjoy music as composers, performers and listeners. Things we do in class include singing, playing percussion instruments, recorders and guitars, playing musical games, writing our own music and listening to and discussing music written by ourselves and others. Students can also participate in music activities outside of the classroom. These activities include choir, Concert Band, and piano lessons.
Music education at St Martin’s gives us all the chance to participate in music in a way that makes our lives more meaningful. Although becoming a professional musician can be a wonderful thing, is not the only successful result for a St Martin’s music student.
The exciting thing about having a music blog is that our music community can expand past the boundaries of our school grounds. We can also extend our musical learning and appreciation outside class time and share stories, information and ideas that we don’t always have time for in the classroom.
Thank you for visiting the St Martin of Tours music blog. Please feel free to leave a comment and participate in our music community.

Nice blog!
It’s a great way to keep everyone informed of the wonderful things the children are learning in Music. It sounds far more fun, and alot more interesting than when I was in primary school…a few decades ago now!
Thanks for sharing…Aurelia

Hi Aurelia,
Thank you for your comment. I think everything has changed a lot since I was in primary school too! I think the new tools and the new ways of learning make everything a little more exciting.

Hi,
Saint Martin’s is so cool. I love all the activities and some schools don’t even have music so we are so lucky. I thinks Saint Martin’s is the place to be.
Thanks Emily

Hi Emily,
I’m glad you enjoy St Martin’s and the opportunities you have at the school. I agree, St Martin’s is a pretty good place to be! Particularly the music room
